Merchant's description

Enjoy it now, or cellar for a few years. No need to decant before serving. Burja Estate is nestled in Vipava Valley, in the southwestern corner of Slovenia. It is a landscape famous for its white wines, and shares many varietals with the neighbouring region of Friuli, in Italy. Burja is a small, family-run estate with strong roots in the region (dating all the way back to 1499), and a strong conviction in the power of biodynamic farming. This wine is crafted from 100% Rebula, an often overlooked varietal that is native to this corner of the world. It grew on soils composed of ancient, decomposed fossils, fine-grained marlstone and sandstone. They are rich in calcium carbonate and impart a subtle edge of minerality to the fruits. Stranice is a beautiful golden colour in the glass, replete with aromas of stone fruit. Juicy scents of peach and apricot intermingle with subtle bursts of lemon zest and lime. The Rebula grapes were fermented in oak barrels, and aged on the lees for 18 months before bottling. The palate reveals a full-bodied, deep white wine, with ripe notes of stone fruit, honeysuckle, thyme and chalky seashell minerality. This is an excellent wine to enjoy with some seafood, such as oysters and mussels, soft cheeses, or light salads.
