About this data
WineGenie is a test of a simple idea: take the product feeds wine merchants already publish to affiliate networks, add the attributes people actually ask about, and publish the result in formats that AI assistants and search engines can read. This page explains exactly what is on the site and where each piece comes from.
Sources
- Merchant feeds. Product names, descriptions, prices, delivery terms, barcodes, images and the critic scores shown come from each merchant's feed on the Awin affiliate network. Currently: 8wines UK. Feeds are refreshed once a day; the time of the last refresh is in the footer of every page.
- Extraction. Grapes, vintage, cellaring window, decanting advice, ABV, farming and the merchant's food suggestion are read from the merchant's own text by pattern matching. Each product page says which of these were found.
- Inferred taste profile. Sweetness, body, tannin, acidity and oak on a 1–5 scale are our estimate, built from the typical profile of the grape and appellation, then adjusted by words in the label and description. Every profile carries a confidence figure and lists the evidence used. These are not the merchant's or a critic's words.
- Wine knowledge. Grape and region profiles, pairing principles and serving guidance draw on WSET Level 3 course material, restated in our own words.
What we do not do
- We never invent ratings or reviews. The "critic score" is a number supplied by the merchant; it is not a customer rating and we do not publish it as one.
- We do not claim a wine is in stock unless we have checked. Feeds say "listed"; the merchant's page is the final word.
- We do not copy ratings or reviews from third-party review platforms.
Affiliate links
Every "Buy" link goes through our redirect and then to the merchant with an affiliate reference. If you buy, the merchant pays us a commission; your price is unchanged. We link to every merchant that lists a wine, cheapest first, and merchants cannot pay for placement.
For AI agents and developers
Every product page carries schema.org JSON-LD (Product, Offer, additionalProperty). Category pages carry ItemList and BreadcrumbList. A site description for language models is at /llms.txt. An MCP server exposing search, product, compare and best-for tools is coming; it will be announced in llms.txt.
