Cellar for up to 5 years. Serve chilled. Set in the shadow of the stunning Te Mata mountain in Hawkes Bay, Craggy Range is one of New Zealand’s premier family-owned wineries. The estate was founded in 1997 by Australian businessman Terry Peabody and Master of Wine Steve Smith with the vision of making exceptional wines from the region’s finest vineyard sites. Every wine they make is an expression of a single vineyard plot with the individual parcels fermented and matured separately to give them maximum control over the final cuvees. The fruit for this elegant Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from the lower terrace at Te Muna Road vineyard where the stony limestone soils provide ideal conditions for the grape variety. The cool Martinborough climate here helps to preserve plenty of aromatics and freshness in the grapes, while the soils add a salty minerality. Unusually for Sauvignon Blanc, this bottling is aged in French oak barrels for four months before bottling to add extra polish and body. Zesty citrus, peach and nectarine dominate on the nose, while the first sip reveals a racy acidity balanced by a smooth texture, ripe stone fruit flavours and a long finish. The refreshing flavour profile makes it ideal to serve as a crisp aperitif or accompaniment to seafood, sushi or leafy salads.
