Merchant's description

Cellar for up to 7 years. No need to decant before serving. Set in the village of Solicchiata on the north-eastern slopes of Mount Etna, Pietradolce was founded in 2005 and specialises in top quality wines made from local varieties which are predominantly planted as bush vines. They adopt a holistic approach in their winemaking, using both traditional methods and the latest technology and expertise to capture the authentic character of this unique volcanic terroir. Crafted from 100% Nerello Mascalese, their Etna Rosso is a great introduction to the elegant red wines of the region. The vines are planted at 800 metres of altitude on sandy soils and the grapes are vinified in stainless steel tanks and oak barrels. The young wine is then briefly matured in oak for three months to add polish before it is ready for bottling. On the nose there are vibrant red fruit notes as well as more savoury hints of dried herbs and subtle spice. The first sip reveals a bright acidity, medium body and smooth tannins complemented by ripe red cherry and berry flavours which linger on the tongue. The dynamic and refreshing flavour profile makes this a great partner for tomato-based dishes such as pasta with a rich ragu sauce or hunter’s chicken.
