Merchant's description

Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant, but best to open it half an hour before service. Located in Alba, in the heart of the Langhe, Pio Cesare boasts a rich history spanning centuries. Founded in 1881, the winery remains a family business, today managed by Pio Boffa. The vineyards cover approximately 70 hectares, which include some notable Barolo and Barbaresco crus, and some highly prestigious parcels in Serralunga d'Alba. The Barbera grapes are sourced from estate vineyards located in Serralunga d’Alba, Diano d'Alba, Sinio, Treiso, and Monforte. After harvesting, fermentation takes place in stainless steel with maceration on the skins for over 20 days. The finished wine then ages for one year in a mix of barriques and barrels. The result is a lively wine with a strong personality, boasting a deep, brilliant ruby color. On the nose, this Barbera reveals lively fruity aromas intertwined with delicate floral and spicy notes. On the palate, it is fresh and multifaceted, harmonious and round. It has good body, balanced acidity, and soft tannins. The finish is long and flavorful. It is a very versatile wine when paired with food: it is excellent with traditional Italian porchetta, legume soups, eggplant parmigiana, and tagliatelle with hare sauce.
