Located in Blenheim, in New Zealand's Marlborough wine region, Two Rivers Winery was founded by David Clouston, a local winemaker who returned home after years of experience and harvests abroad. Today, the winery, named after the region's most important rivers, the Wairau and Awatere, produces excellent wines based on international varietals such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Riesling. Clos des Pierres is a 100% Chardonnay made from grapes from The Spring Vineyard, a vineyard over 25 years old, characterized by stony soil (hence the name "Pierres," meaning stones in French). After manual harvesting and gentle whole-cluster pressing, fermentation occurs spontaneously. The finished wine then ages in a mix of new and used barrels of various sizes for 8 months. In the glass, the wine displays a bright, intense lemon yellow color. Its aromatic profile is broad and fragrant, with notes of ripe citrus, nectarines, and lemon curd, followed by toasty and almond hints on a background of salty notes reminiscent of evening sea breezes. On the palate, it is juicy, concentrated, and well-structured. It has a distinctive minerality and a long, elegant finish. Try it with four-cheese pizza, pork tenderloin, or roast chicken.
