It was founded in the early 2000s by two friends, Sergi Ferrer-Salat and Raül Bobet, with the aim of producing top-quality wines that express the distinctive identity of this small corner of Catalonia. The winery covers approximately 70 hectares of land, of which only 22 are planted with vineyards. Seleccio Especial Vinyes Velles is a pure Carignan, with grapes sourced from centuries-old vineyards located on steep slate slopes in some of the finest Priorat sites, in a high-altitude area where the cool microclimate and strong temperature swings favor slow ripening and the development of a pronounced acidity. After manual harvesting and fermentation in wooden vats, the wine first ages in French oak for a year and a half and then for an additional two years in bottle. In the glass, the wine reveals a deep ruby color and a broad, mature aromatic profile that opens with notes of red fruit followed by floral and spicy aromas on a mineral undertone. On the palate, it is rich and intense, vigorous and concentrated, with smooth, well-integrated tannins and a long, fresh, and mineral finish. Try it with chili con carne, goulash, or spicy salamis like Spanish chorizo and Calabrian nduja.
