Drink now or cellar for up to 11 years. No need to decant before serving. The Glaetzer family are pioneering Barossa winemakers, having arrived in the valley in 1888 after emigrating to Australia from Brandenberg in Germany. Colin Glaetzer founded his own winery in 1995 after working for local producers including Barossa Valley estate. In keeping with family tradition his son, Ben, also became a winemaker and at the tender age of 26 was awarded Qantas Young Winemaker of the Year. This powerful red blend is named after “Anna Perenna”, a Roman goddess associated with the New Year, and is composed primarily of Shiraz along with a smaller quantity of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The fruit comes from prime vineyards in the cooler Ebenezer sub-region in the north of Barossa. The Shiraz vines are aged 30-100 years old while the Cabernet varies in age between 30-130 years old. The high proportion of extremely old vines helps to create a rich, voluptuous style of wine with plenty of intense fruit and dried fruit character. The grapes are vinified in open top fermenters and the young wine is then matured in new French oak barrels for 16 months. The wine is then bottled without filtering to showcase the full beauty of the fruit and terroir. The result is a powerful, full bodied red with ample tannins and a firm structure which is bursting with dark berry, herbal and spiced notes.
