Lapostolle is a renowned winery founded in Chile in 1994 by Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle and Cyril de Bournet, and now managed by Charles de Bournet. Lapostolle wines are made with carefully selected grapes from the estate's three vineyards, spread across the Apalta Valley, in a soil and climate particularly favorable for growing Bordeaux varietals. Over the three decades of operation, the company has recognized the country's enormous viticultural potential and has established itself as one of the most prestigious wineries. The Cuvée Alexandre Merlot is produced with a small addition of Syrah. The grapes are sourced from the estate's vineyards located in the Apalta Valley, not far from the city of Santa Cruz. After harvesting and macerating for over three weeks, fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel, and the wine then ages for 15 months in used oak barrels. In the glass, the wine reveals a deep, brilliant red color and a ripe, fragrant aromatic profile with notes of cherry, plum, and strawberry, followed by hints of vanilla and aromatic herbs. On the palate, it has a medium-full body and a good concentration of fruit. It is round, smooth, and juicy with well-defined, velvety tannins and a long, elegant finish. Try it with spaghetti and meatballs, pasta Amatriciana, or roast turkey with cranberry sauce.
