Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour. Located in the province of Catania, in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia, Passopisciaro is the Sicilian project of Andrea Franchetti of Tenuta di Trinoro, today led by Vincenzo Lo Mauro. In the vineyards, distributed at 1000 meters on the slopes of the Etna volcano, the company grows Nerello Mascalese, Chardonnay, Petit Verdot, and Cesanese d'Affile grapes. The Nerello Mascalese grapes are selected and harvested by hand in the Contrada Rampante district, located over 1000 meters above sea level. Here the vineyards benefit from a sunny climate cooled by breezes coming from the north and from soils of lava origin and rich in minerals. The temperature range between day and night favors optimal maturation and fresh acidity. After fermentation, the wine is aged in large oak barrels for 18 months. The wine shows a brilliant and clear color with ruby-red tones. Its aromatic profile is intense and fragrant with fruity and wildflower notes and hints of Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is round and elegant, fresh and fruity, with a medium body and well-integrated tannins. The finish is long and persistent and recalls mineral notes. It pairs well with charcuterie, medium-aged cheeses and game birds.
