Merchant's description

Drink it now or cellar for up to 8 years. No need to decant. The Czech winery Thaya is located in the village of Havraníky, in the beautiful wine region of South Moravia, not far from the Podyjí National Park. In the modern cellar, designed by architect Jakub Cigler, oenologist Jakub Smrčky produces 5 lines of wines with grapes coming from the 105 hectares of company vineyards located nearby. The favorable climate and soil conditions of the area guarantee high quality production, and the winery has in fact soon gained large success and received various international awards. This delicious red wine is made with Frankovka grapes, a vine of Slovenian origin today widespread especially in Austria and Germany, where it is known by the name of Blaufränkisch, and also in Hungary, where it is called Kékfrankós. The grapes come from old vineyards and, after fermentation, the wine rests in oak for 1 year, before bottling. It is a fruity wine with an intense aromatic profile with notes of red cherry, currant, and berries, followed by balsamic and slightly spicy hints. On the palate, it is juicy and round. It has a strong acidic streak and ripe, well-integrated tannins. The finish is pleasantly long and recalls notes of undergrowth. It is perfect with smoked sausage, hot dogs, and cheesy Spaetzle dumplings.
