Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour. Founded by a group of passionate Italian and Argentine winemakers in 1995, the Argentine winery Altos Las Hormigas is located in the heart of the Mendoza wine region. Renowned for its powerful and expressive Malbecs, the winery is committed to careful vineyard zoning and sustainable viticulture to produce high-quality wines that represent the richness of the Mendoza terroir. The Malbec grapes come exclusively from vineyards located in the La Consulta subregion and two areas of Tupungato, in the Uco Valley. Here, the vines benefit from an altitude of over 900 meters and are rooted in gravelly, alluvial soils with good drainage. After manual harvesting, fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts at a controlled temperature in small steel tanks, and the finished wine ages partly in concrete (75%) and partly in untoasted oak (25%) for 18 months before further aging in the bottle. The resulting wine reveals the pure aromatic character of the Uco Valley wines, with floral notes of violet, blackberry, blueberry, and other red fruits, herbaceous and slightly spicy notes on a mineral undertone. On the palate, it is juicy and round, rich and full-bodied. It has smooth tannins and a pleasant fruit concentration. It is fresh and balanced with a well-defined minerality. Try it with lasagna Bolognese or grilled meat.
