Barbara Öhlzelt Riesling Kogelberg 2022 is a precise white wine from a steep, primary rock vineyard in the Kamptal region. The Kogelberg site is an Erste Lage vineyard characterised by a mix of metamorphic rocks, including granite, gneiss and quartzite, which impart a distinct mineral tension. Vines here are over 65 years old and planted so densely that no machinery can enter the parcels, necessitating entirely manual cultivation. Öhlzelt uses a minimalist winemaking approach with spontaneous fermentation and stainless steel ageing to preserve the purity of the fruit. This 2022 release exhibits a focused profile of lime zest, white peach and saline minerals, reflecting the light and uncompacted soils of the high Waldviertel plateau. It is a crystalline expression of Austrian Riesling that prioritises site-specific detail and high-toned acidity.
