Barolo Cicala Aldo Conterno 1998
Barolo Cicala Aldo Conterno 1998 is a dry, full-bodied red from Nebbiolo (Barolo, Italy), in the full, structured reds style. Tannins are very firm and acidity very high; oak influence is little. Those scales describe the wine when young; this is a 28-year-old bottle and its tannin and oak will have softened. Good with beef stew, mushroom risotto, steak, lamb.

In 1969, Aldo Conterno broke away from the family business to establish his own winery in Bussia, Monforte d’Alba. Aldo’s three sons Stefano, Franco and Giacomo now run the winery and continue to produce some of the region’s finest wines from their 25-hectares of prime vineyards. Cicala is a south/south-west facing vineyard with vines that are on average 50 years of age and is renowned for producing highly aromatic and long-lived wines. From the excellent 1998 vintage, this wine should now be perfectly ready to drink.
