Merchant's description

One of the oldest wine producers in the Médoc, Château Batailley is currently owned by Borie-Manoux, the négociant firm led by Denise and Emile Castèja. The estate sits on a plateau next to Mouton-Rothschild and covers approximately 57 hectares of vineyard on deep gravel over clay and limestone subsoil. The 2020 vintage is a blend composed of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. It shows a clearly defined bouquet, including ripe blackberry and raspberry fruit with subtle notes of graphite and a hint of aniseed. On the palate, it is a medium-bodied wine, featuring tense black fruit flavours, accompanied by a lovely salinity that adds to its allure. The finish is intricate and long-lasting.
