David Clouston - founder of the Black Cottage Winery - worked for a number of years at wineries in the USA, France, Spain and Chile before returning to his native Marlborough. He now lives in a wooden cottage in the Wairau Valley that is painted black, after which the winery is named. At the end of 2019 Black Cottage implemented light weight bottles, designed to reduce the carbon footprint of transportation.
