Calon Segur Magnum 2006
Calon Segur Magnum 2006 is a dry, very full-bodied red from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot (Saint-Estèphe, France), in the full, structured reds style. Tannins are firm and acidity fresh; oak influence is noticeable. Those scales describe the wine when young; this is a 20-year-old bottle and its tannin and oak will have softened. Good with steak, lamb, roast chicken, roast pork.

Château Calon-Ségur is the most northerly of the Médoc Grand-Crus Classés and is renowned for wines with excellent purity of fruit and great longevity. The 2006 is a high-quality follow-up to the brilliant 2005 which is no mean feat given the contrasts in the general vintage conditions. A blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, it is elegant and expressive, offering up lovely notes of cassis, black cherry, dried herbs and tobacco. Though now entering its peak drinking phase, this should continue to evolve nicely over the next decade or two.
