Drink it now or cellar for up to 20 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour. Founded in 1913 in Barbaresco by Luigi Minuto, Cascina Luisin actually has even older origins: the Minuto family has, in fact, been producing wine since the late 1800s. Today, the company owns approximately 8 hectares of vineyards, and Roberto Minuto, the eighth generation of the family, carries on this long and prestigious winemaking tradition. The Nebbiolo grapes are sourced from a vineyard averaging over 65 years old, located at an altitude of approximately 300 meters, with a southwest exposure, in the Asili cru, in the municipality of Barbaresco. After harvest and a long fermentation in concrete tanks, the finished wine ages for a total of 30 months (first in large oak barrels and then in bottles) before being released for sale. Cascina Luisin Barbaresco Asili is an elegant and fragrant wine with an approachable character even in its youth. In the glass, it reveals a clear garnet color and an intense and complex aromatic profile with notes of red fruits, rhubarb, and rose petals, followed by spicy and chocolatey hints. On the palate, it is full-bodied, warm, and savory with a pleasant minerality and a lively, well-balanced acidity. The tannins are firm, vigorous and well-integrated. The finish is long and persistent, recalling hints of quinine and licorice. This wine demands pairing with rich, structured dishes. Try it with venison chops or egg fettuccine with porcini mushrooms and truffles.
