Owned by the Cebrián-Sagarriga family since 1983, Marqués de Murrieta is one of the best-known wine producers in Rioja. This Gran Reserva Especial is made with Tempranillo and Mazuelo grapes, grown in a vineyard situated at 485 meters above sea level. Prior to bottling, the wine was aged for 28 months in 225-litre American and French oak barrels. Still youthful, the wine offers elegant tannins carrying flavours of dark plums, black cherries, caramel and violet that slowly fade into a soft cherry-pie finish. Drinking well now.
