Chambertin Domaine Ponsot 1996
Chambertin Domaine Ponsot 1996 is a dry, light-bodied red from Pinot Noir (Gevrey-Chambertin grand cru, France), in the light, fresh reds style. Tannins are soft and acidity fresh; oak influence is noticeable. Those scales describe the wine when young; this is a 30-year-old bottle and its tannin and oak will have softened. Good with duck, salmon, roast chicken, charcuterie.

Domaine Ponsot Chambertin is a Grand Cru red Burgundy from the Côte de Nuits. This jeroboam represents the pinnacle of the estate`s holdings, sourced from a 0.82-hectare parcel of vines averaging 50 years of age. Winemaking follows the signature non-interventionist approach of the domain, utilising 100% destemmed fruit and avoiding the use of new oak to preserve the transparency of the terroir. The 1996 season provided high acidity and structural tension, which balances the natural power of the site. Expect a profile defined by mineral density, liquorice and dark fruit, bolstered by the slower evolution afforded by the large-format bottle.
