Cellar for up to 15 years. Decanting is optional, for up to 30 minutes before serving. Chateau de Meursault is one of Burgundy’s most prestigious estates, with a history dating back to the 11th century. Over the centuries, it passed through a long line of noblemen and now finds itself under the ownership of Olivier Halley, the heir of a famous French wine family. The chateau is located in the Meursault appellation, but its deep roots spread to vineyards across the Côte de Beaune region. This wine was sourced from the Clos des Chênes vineyard in Volnay, an appellation famous for delicate and strikingly elegant Pinot Noirs. This Premier Cru is no exception. The nose is fine and complex, revealing notes of blackberry, sweet spice, blackcurrant, and subtle notions of smoke and chocolate. In the mouth, it is concentrated and fleshy. The wine’s fresh acidity is reflective of Clos des Chênes’ location, on a hilltop at 270 metres above sea level. You’ll discover notes of red cherry, tart blueberry, and underlying spicy hints of nutmeg, cardamom and dried herbs. The tannins are subtle and flawlessly integrated. This Pinot Noir has plenty of room to develop and was made with bottle ageing in mind. It will be excellent company for soft cheeses, or gamey meats served alongside mushrooms.
