Larcis Ducasse sits on the southern slope of the Saint-Émilion plateau, where the limestone and clay soils give the wine a precision that sets it apart from the more opulent side of the appellation. Promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé B in 2012, it has been one of the quiet overachievers of the Right Bank ever since — winemaker Nicolas Thienpont and consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt brought a rigour here that the estate now wears very naturally. The 2016 is predominantly Merlot with Cabernet Franc adding lift and structure, and the vintage itself was one of those rare gifts: a dry summer that built concentration without sacrificing freshness.
