Merchant's description

Drink now or cellar for up to 11 years. No need to decant before serving. Soft and supple yet packed with rich dark fruit, this classic Saint Emilion Grand Cru is crafted from vines with an average age of 40 years. These grow on top quality clay and limestone soils in the vicinity of Saint Etienne De Lisse. The fruit for Chateau Mangot’s namesake wine is sourced from across the 21 vineyard plots on the estate, capturing a snapshot of the complex terroirs found on the property’s slopes, terraces and plateaus. The predominant grape is Merlot along with a much smaller proportion of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Each variety is picked separately and vinified by vineyard plot to give the winemakers maximum control over the composition of the final blend. Prior to bottling the young wine is aged in French oak barrels for 13-15 months, creating a generous full bodied red with ample bramble, plum and dark cherry notes seasoned with cigar box spice and dark chocolate. The history of this prized estate dates right back to the 16th century when official documents first mention the property owned by the Mangot family and being planted with vines. In 1976 the property was purchased by the Todeschini family who still own the estate to this day.
