Château Margaux 2006
Château Margaux 2006 is a dry, full-bodied red from Cabernet Sauvignon (Margaux, France), in the full, structured reds style. Tannins are firm and acidity fresh; oak influence is noticeable. Those scales describe the wine when young; this is a 20-year-old bottle and its tannin and oak will have softened. Good with steak, lamb, venison, cheese board.

Château Margaux 2006 is one of the great sleepers of a decade that Bordeaux lovers are still waking up to. The year was testing — a cool, late season that rewarded patience in the vineyard — and Margaux, with its extraordinary gravel-over-clay soils and exacting viticulture, was better placed than almost anyone to extract something remarkable from it. The wine is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, and it shows: there is a structural precision here, a tightly coiled energy, that feels more Margaux than any particular vintage character.
