Cellar for up to 15 years. Decant up to an hour before serving. Chateau Purcari is a prestigious Moldovan winery, seated in the country’s southeast between the Dniester River and the Black Sea. French settlers understood the significance of this region’s soil as early as the 1700s, beginning a fruitful viticultural partnership with local monasteries around the village of Purcari. The soil and climate of Purcari are uncannily similar to those of Bordeaux - the two regions share latitude and are both rich in rubidium. Purcari became Moldova’s first specialised winery in 1827 and has maintained a special place in Europe’s collective palate since then. In the last two decades, the winery has undergone extensive modernisation, and vineyards planted at the turn of the millennium are now beginning to come to fruition, producing grapes that can rival Bordeaux in quality. This 100% Saperavi wine is endowed with rich scents of plum, cassis and blackberries. Characteristic of the Georgian grape, it is deep ruby in colour, with glints of violet. It wraps the mouth in decadent dark fruit flavours, with velvety tannins and a lengthy, evolving finish. Serve it at room temperature, with rich meaty dishes. Consider game or herby lamb chops.
