Chateauneuf du Pape Beaucastel Magnum 2004
Chateauneuf du Pape Beaucastel Magnum 2004 is a dry, very full-bodied red from Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre (Châteauneuf-du-Pape, France), in the rich, smooth reds style. Tannins are moderate and acidity moderate; oak influence is little. Those scales describe the wine when young; this is a 22-year-old bottle and its tannin and oak will have softened. Good with lamb, roast vegetables, beef stew, barbecue.

Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape is one of the iconic red wines of the Southern Rhône. Château de Beaucastel`s history dates to 1549, when Pierre de Beaucastel acquired land in the Coudoulet area. In 1909, the Perrin family took control of the estate and has since been a pioneer in elevating Châteauneuf-du-Pape to the world stage. The estate is renowned for producing terroir-driven red wines that incorporate all 13 traditional grape varieties of the appellation, including Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Muscardin, Vaccarèse, Counoise, Terret Noir, Picpoul, Clairette, Roussanne, Bourboulenc, and Picardan. "Thoroughly primal, with a torrent of raspberry and boysenberry fruit rushing forth. Only shows hints of its full range, with liquorice, incense, graphite and mocha flavours fluttering in the background. Has an iron-clad structure, with a long finish that shows great cut and grip." Wine Spectator, 2007 This Magnum size offers an extended ageing potential, allowing the wine to develop complexity with time. Ideal for collectors and connoisseurs alike.
