Chateauneuf du Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin Beaucastel Magnum 2000
Chateauneuf du Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin Beaucastel Magnum 2000 is a dry, very full-bodied red from Mourvèdre, Grenache, Counoise (Châteauneuf-du-Pape, France), in the rich, smooth reds style. Tannins are moderate and acidity moderate; oak influence is little. Those scales describe the wine when young; this is a 26-year-old bottle and its tannin and oak will have softened. Good with lamb, venison, beef stew, roast vegetables.

Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin 2000 is a full-bodied blended red wine from the Southern Rhône Valley of France. Dating back to 1549, Château de Beaucastel is undoubtedly one of the oldest and finest estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and has been run by successive generations of the supremely talented Perrin family. 1989 was the debut vintage for the flagship wine, Hommage a Jacques Perrin, and is only made in the best years with production limited to around 350 cases on average. From the sensational 2000 vintage, this is a powerhouse release made from a blend of 60% Mourvedre, 20% Grenache, 10% Counoise and 10% Syrah. Bold, concentrated and incredibly seductive, it offers up notes red cherry, blackberry, wild herbs, liquorice, exotic spices and leather. A profound wine of immense complexity that will happily continue to age for at least another two decades. The 2000 vintage is available here in magnum format.
