The history of Domaine la Barroche extends all the way back to the 17th Century, but it was really only after the early 2000s that the estate came to prominence when Julien Barrot joined the family business. The 2016 release of the estate’s entry level cuvée, known as ‘Signature’, is a blend of 62% Grenache, 18% Mourvedre, 13% Syrah, 5% Cinsault and 2% other varieties from a variety of different parcels with an average age of more than 70 years. It is rich and full-bodied, offering up an array of red berry fruits, spice box and herbs. Weighty but not heavy, it is an archetypal Châteauneuf with early drinking appeal but excellent potential longevity.
