Drink now or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant before serving. The Mirianashvili family have been making wine in the village of Shilda in Georgia for over a century, although it was only in 2001 that Giorgi Mirianashvili founded the Chelti winery here. The 80 hectare property is home to the family’s prized vineyards, cellars and winemaking facilities, allowing them to take care of every part of the process and craft top quality wines from local grape varieties. This attractive red is made from Georgia’s ancient Saperavi variety which has been grown here for thousands of years. The grapes for this particular cuvee are sourced from the Mukuzani sub-region which is especially suited for growing Saperavi and has strict rules to ensure quality production. Once in the winery the fruit is fermented according to traditional methods and the young wine is then matured in oak barrels for 6 months. On the nose you’ll immediately notice the intense notes of blackberries, cassis and crushed wild berries and the deep red hue in the glass. The first sip reveals a luscious hit of dark fruit complemented by a balancing acidity and a long, pure finish. The elegance and poise of this cuvee makes it a great choice to serve alongside charcuterie and hard cheeses.
