The name of Clos du Marquis, created in 1902, was inspired by the Petit Clos adjacent to the Château de Léoville, residence of the Marquis de Las Cases. Produced from top terroirs of the Saint-Julien appellation, this is an estate that produces wines with superb structure, complexity, harmony, distinction and ageing potential. The 2008 vintage is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Described by the critic James Suckling as follows, `I love the berry and currants and cassis here with minerals. Full and very velvety and rich with beautiful fruit. Long and juicy with lovely fruit.`
