Clos Fourtet’s grand vin is a Merlot-dominat wine, which is typically matured for 18 months in French barriques - with 60% new wood - and then bottled unfiltered. The 1998 vintage shows plenty of black fruits, toffee, espresso, malt chocolate and truffles. Balance and depth are excellent on the palate, with fully resolved tannins and notes of ripe blackcurrants, dark plums, tobacco and earthy damp leaves. This is a fully mature and should be consumed over the next 3-5 years.
