Clos Rougeard is the closest thing the Loire has to a cult domaine. The Foucault brothers, and now the Bouygues family, who acquired the estate in 2017, have long proved that Cabernet Franc from Saumur Champigny can age like great Burgundy. This 2020 magnum comes from a warm, generous vintage that ripened the fruit beautifully without tipping into heaviness, and the extra volume of a magnum gives the wine even more headroom to develop. Sourced from a south-facing slope with sandy, limestone-rich soils, Poyeux has always been the more graceful sibling in the Rougeard family - silky, perfumed, and hauntingly elegant, with incredible purity of fruit and that signature mineral undertow.
