Cuvee Cathelin Chave 2000
Cuvee Cathelin Chave 2000 is a dry, full-bodied red from Syrah (Hermitage, France), in the full, structured reds style. Tannins are firm and acidity moderate; oak influence is noticeable. Those scales describe the wine when young; this is a 26-year-old bottle and its tannin and oak will have softened. Good with lamb, beef stew, steak, venison.

The Chave family has reportedly been producing wines in the Rhône Valley since 1481 and is unequivocally one of the most famous producers of Hermitage. Cuvée Cathelin is an ultra-exclusive luxury wine which made its debut with the 1990 vintage. It is named after a close family friend, artist Bernard Cathelin, and is produced mostly from Syrah from the Les Bessards lieu-dit with an extended period of maturation in new French oak. Only made in selected vintages production is strictly limited to around 200 cases. The 2000 release is a typically full-bodied and intense but perhaps possessive of slightly firmer tannin than other iterations. It will require just a little more cellaring but is a stunning release nonetheless.
