Merchant's description

Cellar for up to 20 years. Decant for up to an hour before serving. Domaine Raymond Usseglio is a generation-spanning estate, located in the Southern Rhone Valley. The winery's vineyards are comprised of 5 hectares in the Côtes du Rhône appellation and 18 inside Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Stéphan Usseglio is the grandson of Francis, who founded the estate's predecessor back in 1948. Under Stéphane’s exemplary leadership, the estate produces a fantastic range of Châteauneuf-du-Pape cuveés, 4 red and 3 white. This is their classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape expression, a potent red blend spearheaded by Grenache, and supported by Cinsault, Mourvedre, Counoise and Syrah. It is deep garnet in the glass, with hints of violet. It exhibits a nose of dark forest fruits, tobacco and subtle hints of black liquorice. The blend is fermented and aged entirely in concrete vats, to obtain the purest expression of fruit possible. It is luscious in the mouth, and the flavours of plum and cherry are supported by chocolate hints and ripe tannins. It has a perception of sweetness, which sticks around during the long finish. Perfect for those seeking a classic taste of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It will pair well with rich meaty main courses, such as lamb chops, cassoulet, or a hearty mushroom dish.
