Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant, but best to open it half an hour before service. Domaine Roger Belland is a sixth-generation family-run Burgundy winery, producing excellent white and red wines from some of the region's most renowned appellations, including Meursault, Volnay, and Pommard. The estate covers approximately 23 hectares of vineyards, cultivated with an extremely respectful approach to the terroir and using modern, biodegradable plant protection products. The Pinot Noir grapes come from the Premier Cru Clos Roussots, one of the most prestigious vineyards in the Maranges appellation. The 25-year-old vines benefit from a strategic location not far from Santenay, on slopes with clay-limestone soils. After harvesting and vinification at low temperatures, the wine ages for 12-18 months in new or one-year-old oak barrels. The result is a very fruity, fresh, and youthful wine, yet capable of aging well for several years. In the glass, it reveals a brilliant ruby color and a fragrant, broad aromatic profile with notes of ripe strawberry, raspberry, and cherry interspersed with floral touches of rose and violet, and hints of undergrowth. On the palate, it is lively, juicy, and balanced, with an innate elegance and soft tannins. It has perfectly balanced acidity and a smooth texture. The finish is long and recalls red fruit flavors. Try it with coq au vin and Burgundian cheeses like Epoisses.
