Merchant's description

Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant, but best to open it half an hour before service. Founded in 1992, Domaine Thierry Mortet is located in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, in the Côtes de Nuits region of Burgundy. The estate, which converted to organic farming in 2007, has actually a much longer tradition and was born from the division of Domaine Mortet Charles & Fils between the two Mortet brothers. The Pinot Noir grapes come from approximately 20 different parcels with clay-limestone soils of varying composition (stony, marly, or rocky subsoil), all located within the appellation, covering a total of 3 hectares. The vines, organically grown, range in age from 20 to 60 years. After harvest and spontaneous vinification, approximately one-third of the finished wine ages in new oak barrels for 16-17 months, and the remainder in tanks for 5 months, and then in used barrels for 11-12 months, before blending and bottling. Domaine Thierry Mortet Gevrey Chambertin is an elegant and balanced wine with a fragrant and expressive aromatic profile. On the nose, it reveals fruity notes of strawberry, blackberry, and cherry, followed by floral aromas of rose and violet, with hints of underbrush and wood. On the palate, it is rich, deep, and smooth. It has a beautiful fruit concentration, good structure, and soft tannins. The finish is long and complex. It pairs perfectly with grilled red meats and roasted feathered game. It also works well with medium-aged cow's milk cheeses.
