Dominio del Aguila is a small, family run winery producing incredibly high quality and thoroughly modern wines in the village of La Aguilera in the Ribera del Duero. Though only established in 2010, winemaker Jorge Monzon is one of the most exciting prospects in the region having honed his skills at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Vega Sicilia. This stunning white wine is made from the uniquely Ribera variety, Albillo. Sourced from a century-old, organically farmed vineyard sitting at 800m elevation, all fruit is hand-harvested, foot-trodden and whole-bunch fermented with indigenous yeasts. It is then matured on lees for 30-35 months in French oak barrels. Incredibly intense and tensile in youth, it offers up vibrant notes of citrus and orchard fruits, with incisive acidity and a distinctively smoky-saline minerality. This is an incredibly high-quality wine well worth trying if you are a fan of the more reductive/smoky styles of white Burgundy or Chardonnay.
