Dominio del Aguila is a small, family run winery producing incredibly high quality and thoroughly modern wines in the village of La Aguilera in the Ribera del Duero. Though only established in 2010, winemaker Jorge Monzon is one of the most exciting prospects in the region having honed his skills at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Vega Sicilia. The Viñas Viejas 2018 is crafted from the indigenous Albillo grape, sourced from a century-old vineyard at 800m elevation in Ribera del Duero. Winemaker Jorge Monzón employs traditional methods, including hand-harvesting and foot-treading, followed by whole-bunch fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wine matures on lees for 30-35 months in French oak barrels. Known for its intense character, it presents vibrant citrus and orchard fruit notes, complemented by pronounced acidity and a smoky, saline minerality.
