El Pison is Artadi`s flagship, a two-hectare plot of Tempranillo planted in 1945 on limestone and clay soils in Rioja Alavesa, often ranked alongside Spain`s finest crus. The 2012 offers a deep garnet colour and an expressive nose of black cherry, dried herbs and cedar from ageing in French oak. The palate is rich yet precise, with ripe tannins, good acidity and real depth of fruit through a long finish. Built to age, it will reward cellaring for another decade or three. Pair with roast lamb or aged hard cheese.
