Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour. Founded by Roberto Romero in the late 1970s, the El Porvenir de Cafayate is a family-run winery, located in Salta, whose production is based on a great love for the territory, hard work in the vineyard, and technological innovation. In 2000, Romero, in collaboration with his granddaughter Lucía Roberto-Marcuzzi, who now leads the company, restored the 50-year-old vineyards of Torrontés and Tannat and embarked on an infrastructure renewal project, to focus on the production of high-quality wines. The Icono wine from the El Porvenir winery is a blend of Petit Verdot, Tannat, Shiraz/Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec. The grapes come from the Finca Rio Seco and Finca Alto Rio Seco vineyards, located respectively at 1700 and 1750 meters above sea level. After vinification, the wine rests in French oak barrels for approximately 22-24 months. Its color is deep ruby red with plum tones. The nose reveals intense aromas of wild berries, such as blackberries, and cassis but also prunes and dried figs, followed by sweet spices and balsamic notes. On the palate, it displays a delightful concentration of fruit. It is fresh and well-balanced and has velvety tannins and a good body. The finish is long and recalls spicy notes. It is ideal with red meat, especially a juicy steak, and also works well with pasta with ragu or a hearty lasagna.
