Merchant's description

Le Méal is one of Hermitage`s finest granite-soil lieux-dits, and Ferraton`s old vine Syrah from this steep slope is one of the appellation`s benchmark wines. The 2009, from an outstanding, ripe Rhône vintage, is deep and inky with dense black fruit, liquorice and roasted spice, backed by rich, plush tannins and real concentration. Aged 50% in new oak, it is powerful and built for the long haul; give it a lengthy decant now or keep cellaring towards its 2030s peak. Match with venison or truffled dishes.
