The Ermitage Le Pavillon from M Chapoutier is a single-vineyard Syrah sourced from a four-hectare plot in the Les Bessards lieu-dit of the Hermitage appellation. This particular plot features a unique geology of a fine layer of sediments over a granite subsoil, and the wine is produced from vines averaging 65 years in age. The 2014 vintage displays a deep, intense red with purplish reflections. It offers a bouquet of tarry, smoky notes, raspberry, blackberry, walnut and liquorice. The palate is complex and powerful, developing a velvety, balanced texture and a long finish with suggestions of liquorice, tobacco and cocoa.
