Cellar for up to 15 years. Decant for an hour before serving. The village of Pereta in Southern Tuscany is overlooked by two hills, giving rise to the name “Le Pupille” - two eyes that look over the village, and keep a careful watch on fields of ripe Sangiovese. Elisabetta Geppetti is the caretaker of these 75 hectares of vineyard, using her expert knowledge to produce a range of utterly timeless Tuscan wines. Morellino di Scansano is the epitome of the winery itself - providing a classic taste of Italy while breaking a few rules. This Super Tuscan is crafted from 90% Sangiovese and 10% Cillegiolo and Alicante. The grapes were sourced from several prime plots around the village of Pereta, providing a wonderfully balanced representation of Fattoria Le Pupille’s output. Morellino di Scansano begins with a beautiful nose of cherry, balsamic, peony and rose petals, evoking the picturesque landscape that it came from. After some time breathing, the nose will also reveal notes of cinnamon and clove, with more pronounced red berry scents. On the palate, this wine blooms into a crisp, full-bodied experience, replete with flavours of blackberry, Marasco cherry, leather and chocolate. The tannins are smooth and sapid. To unlock this wine’s full potential, pair it with gamey meats, olives, or a rich tomato stew.
