Think of Frerejean Frères as a Grower Champagne with Grande Marque aspirations: The wines feature on the lists of a number of the world’s greatest restaurants at prestigious award ceremonies, with luxury partners and yet the boutique production ensures a real dedication to quality throughout. Grande Réserve NV is Chardonnay dominant (50%), including from two 1er cru sites; contains a healthy 20% reserve wines; and spends an impressive three and a half years maturing on lees (the legal requirement is just one year). It’s no surprise it has been awarded a gold medal by famous wine publication Gilbert & Gaillard, and it's gone down a storm at recent events where we've poured it for guests. Simply put, no fridge is really complete without a few bottles. It's fresh and generous, with bright citrus-and-green apple aromas, a touch of white peach, and subtle floral and brioche nuances from its Champagne ageing. On the palate, it feels crisp and energetic — lively acidity carries mineral-driven freshness along with delicate stone-fruit and lemon zest flavours. The mousse is fine and persistent, giving good lift and a clean, refreshing finish with a hint of toast and minerality. As a non-vintage Brut, it offers great value: elegant enough for celebrations, but easygoing enough for everyday moments.
