La Perrière lies directly across the lane from Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru, giving fuller, more structured wines than typical village Gevrey, and Chanson, a long-established Beaune house, makes a classic version here. 2014 was a fresher vintage with good natural acidity, following a difficult, hail-hit growing season. The wine shows a bright ruby colour, black cherry, liquorice and dark spice on the nose, and a firm, defined palate with grippy tannin. Drinking well now, with scope to develop further, best with duck or venison.
