Domaine Henri Magnien is one of Burgundy's historic estates, founded in the 17th century in Gevrey-Chambertin, in the Côte de Nuits. Today, the estate, led by Charles Magnien, owns approximately 7 hectares of vineyards that include some of the appellation's finest parcels. The company produces some of the area's most elegant Pinot Noirs, thanks to meticulous vineyard management that respects the terroir and promotes older Pinot Noir selections (including the proprietary Pinot Magnien clone). The Pinot Noir grapes are carefully selected and harvested from seven plots situated at the foot of the Gevrey-Chambertin hill, in the lowest part of the appellation, where the soil is predominantly clayey. After vinification with indigenous yeasts, the finished wine ages in French oak (75% of which is used) for twelve months. In the glass, the Gevrey Chambertin Henri Magnien reveals an intense ruby color. Its aromatic profile is rich and fragrant, with notes of raspberry and cranberry, blackberry, and small wild berries, followed by delicate spicy notes. On the palate, it is elegant, round, and fruity. It has a smooth texture, soft tannins, and a pleasant freshness. The finish is long and silky. It is perfect with veal or pork escalopes with mushrooms, or stuffed guinea fowl breast.
