Imperial Reserva 2020 is a classic Rioja of depth and poise, combining ripe fruit with the savoury complexity that has long defined this flagship wine from C.V.N.E. Aromas of black cherry, damson and wild blackberry are layered with notes of cedar, cigar box, vanilla pod and sweet spice from its extended ageing in oak. The palate is concentrated yet finely balanced, with polished tannins framing rich dark fruit, hints of cocoa and tobacco leaf, and a freshness that lifts the wine through a long, composed finish. Produced primarily from Tempranillo grown in some of Rioja Alta's finest vineyards, Imperial has been one of Spain's benchmark Reservas since the 1920s. The 2020 vintage combines the structure and age-worthiness expected of the label with an attractive generosity in its youth, making it rewarding now with roast lamb, grilled beef or mature Manchego, while retaining the capacity to develop additional complexity over the next decade or more.
