Merchant's description

Product Information Country Australia Region Barossa Grape Variety 48% Shiraz, 28% Grenache, 24% Mourvèdre Vintage 2021 ABV 14.5% Crafted by renowned Barossa winemaker John Duval, the Plexus Shiraz Grenache Mourvèdre 2021 is a refined and expressive Barossa Valley GSM red wine that showcases the power, balance, and elegance of this exceptional vintage. Vineyard Selection This premium Barossa Valley Shiraz Grenache Mourvèdre blend is sourced from some of the region’s most respected vineyard sites. • Shiraz fruit comes from old vineyards in Krondorf and Tanunda, delivering depth and structure. • Grenache is sourced from Moppa, Greenock, Ebenezer, and Tanunda, contributing brightness and aromatic lift. • Mourvèdre from Ebenezer and Light Pass adds savoury complexity and fine tannin support. 2021 Barossa Valley Vintage The 2021 Barossa vintage is widely regarded as outstanding. Warm early-season conditions and average rainfall were followed by a calm flowering period, resulting in excellent fruit set and healthy canopies. Well-timed rainfall in late January refreshed the soils, while a cool, dry March allowed for slow, even ripening. The result is fruit with exceptional flavour concentration, balance, and mature tannins, making this one of the most celebrated Barossa vintages in recent years. Winemaking & Maturation Each parcel was fermented separately in small open stainless-steel fermenters using a submerged cap to gently extract flavour and tannin. A portion of the Grenache was fermented with whole bunches, enhancing savoury and spicy characteristics. The wine was matured in a combination of new fine-grain French oak hogsheads and seasoned barrels, ensuring integration without overpowering the fruit. Tasting Notes This Barossa GSM red wine opens with vibrant aromas of blackberry and dark cherry, layered with hints of cinnamon, vanilla, and subtle smoky oak. The palate is generous and velvety, offering layered red and black fruit flavours, savoury spice, and fine, soft tannins. Bright natural acidity provides freshness and length, finishing long, pure, and beautifully balanced. Perfect for cellaring or enjoying now, this wine pairs exceptionally well with grilled meats, slow-cooked lamb, or rich vegetarian dishes. John Duval Wines is a premium, family-owned winery in the heart of the Barossa Valley, producing small-batch Australian red wines from some of the region’s oldest vineyards. Founded in 2003 by world-renowned winemaker John Duval, this boutique label reflects over 40 years of winemaking expertise and six generations of South Australian grape-growing heritage. John Duval, best known as the former Chief Winemaker at Penfolds and custodian of the iconic Grange Shiraz, has created his own legacy by crafting wines that honour the old-vine Barossa terroir. With a focus on low-yield, dry-grown Shiraz, Grenache, and Mourvèdre sourced from vines aged 50 to over 100 years, each bottle expresses purity, balance, and a strong sense of place. Today, John is joined by his son, Tim Duval, continuing the family tradition of winemaking. Together, they work closely with trusted Barossa growers, applying minimal-intervention techniques to produce elegant, modern expressions of classic Barossa varieties.
