Merchant's description

Cellar for up to 20 years. Decant 2 hours. Deep ruby in colour, this Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (82%), Petit Verdot (11%), Malbec (4%), Merlot (2%), and Cabernet Franc (1%) delivers a fantastic wine that is of the highest quality available. The nose offers blackcurrant, red currant, mint, liquorice and tobacco and buttery vanilla notes. The palate shows a myriad of complex layers within the wine and flavours of ripe black fruit, red cherry, chocolate and coffee. There is a dominance of oak but the full bodied nature of the wine, the high levels of beautifully integrated with the acid and alcohol to give a great balance. The finish is long with concentrated notes of spice and vanilla. Great food matches would be beef, lamb, game, venison, strong cheese. The Joseph Phelps Winery does all it can to preserve the fruit in perfect condition including hand harvesting before dawn, hand sorting, gentle pressing and long, slow fermentations. Aged for 24 months in 100% new oak the resulting wines are complex, high quality, and very much sort after. The belief is that the terroir makes the wine – a fact that Joseph Phelps believes in and delivers.
