Drink now or cellar for up to 11 years. No need to decant before serving. La Spinetta is today considered one of Piedmont’s most iconic contemporary wineries. Founded in 1977 by Giuseppe Rivetti, the estate is now run by his son, Giorgio Rivetti, whose talent and hard work has put La Spinetta on the map for exceptional wines made from indigenous grape varieties which capture the essence of the local terroir. This characterful red is crafted from Nebbiolo and Barbera and named after Giuseppe Rivetti’s family nickname, “Pin”. First produced in 1989, the grapes are sourced from the family’s prized Bionzo vineyard in Neive which was planted in 1975. The Barbera grapes are harvested first, in mid to late September, followed by the Nebbiolo in early October to ensure the fruit reaches optimal ripeness. The varieties are then vinified separately and then aged in French oak barrels for 16-18 months before blending. As soon as you pour out a glass you’ll notice the ruby red hue and bright cherry, crushed raspberry and dried herb notes on the nose. The first sip reveals a silky smooth texture, firm tannins and intense red fruit flavours which mingle with hints of earth and underbrush. This is a great gastronomic wine ideal for pairing with many classic Italian dishes including roasted wild boar and venison as well as hearty pastas and stews.
